Humping Beetles
I came across a poem today in special collections. It was in a volume called the Alley Cat Readings 2. This poem was read by Ronald Koertge at the Alley Cat on February 15, 1976. Ah, 1976 -- year of my birth -- all good things happened in 1976, didn't they?Anyway, here is the poem:
12 Photographs of Yellowstone
1. This is Cherry running for her life.
2. This is the bear that ate up baby.
3. Here I am complaining to the ranger.
4. Here we are at dinner compliments of the Forest Service.
5. This is a close up of my penis on a bed of ferns.
6. Here are two 13 yr. old girls peeing in the stream.
7. This is their father being soothed by large bills.
8. This is a time exposure. Cherry in the arms of a stranger.
9. Here we see an unidentified boy masturbating near Window Rock.
10. This is the girl who sells film at the lodge sniffing her uniform.
11. This is the geyser that scalded all those nuns.
12. These are homosexual elk cruising each other in Angel's Meadow.
You like?
By the way, I did my first etching last night. It was of beetles humping on a branch. Not bad, if I do say so myself. And it's good to be printing again. The chapbook/zine idea is coming together for me the more I think about it. Pretty soon I s'pose I'll have to get myself a guinea pig and print her/his poems.
Beetles humping. I just love the idea of it.
